New Procedures for Issuing Appointments for Insurance Producers

Commencing with the 2003 licensure year, insurance producer (agent) appointments issued by the Mississippi Department of Insurance will be for all lines of insurance that such agent is authorized to write and the insurance company seeking the agent's appointment is licensed to transact. The 2003 licensure year for life agent appointments begins January 1, 2003, and June 1, 2003 for property/casualty agent appointments. This will represent a change from the current procedure, which is to allow the insurance company seeking to have an agent appointed to select the lines of insurance it wishes such agent to transact through the appointment process. Should the insurance company desire to limit the authority of a given agent to certain lines of insurance, it should do so by the terms of the agency contract.
