Code Ann. § 27-15-215, all persons liable for privilege taxes who fail to procure or renew an insurance license when due shall be liable for the tax due and fifty per cent thereof. Effective December 31, 2007, persons failing to timely renew their insurance privilege licenses will be assessed this fifty percent penalty in addition to the normal privilege tax. There is no provision for a grace period. Renewal notices must be received by the Mississippi Insurance Department prior to the expiration date of the license or a penalty fee will be assessed.
