Certified Peer Support Specialist Requirements - CPSS
A. Individuals eligible to apply for the DMH Certified Peer Support Specialist credential
(CPSS) are as follows:
1. PCPSSs who have successfully completed all upgrade requirements listed above by the
end of their two-year Provisional Certification Period may apply to upgrade to full
certification (CPSS) on or before their prescribed deadline, as outlined in Chapter
Seventeen. (This is considered an upgrade application for CPSS.)
2. Individuals initially meeting the requirements for CPSS, as outlined in this chapter,
should apply directly for this level of credential, thereby skipping provisional
certification (PCPSS). (This is considered an initial application for CPSS.) Otherwise,
an individual applies for PCPSS and then later, once upgrade requirements are met,
applies for CPSS.
B. In order to be eligible to apply for the DMH Certified Peer Support Specialist credential
(CPSS), an individual must meet ALL of the requirements listed below:
1. Employment;
2. Education;
3. Ethics;
4. Lived Experience;
5. Self-Disclosure;
6. References; AND
7. Exam/Training Requirement.
