Statutory Authority

Statutory Authority. The State Legislature granted Statutory Authority for the Licensing of Professional Massage Therapist in 2001. Section 73-67-1 et seq., of the Mississippi Code of 1972, Annotated provides for the regulation of the practice of massage as well as the use of the title “Licensed Massage Therapist” (LMT) for those who offer massage services to the public for fees. In 2004, authority to regulate Massage Therapy Schools, programs and instructors was granted. Effective July 1, 2008, the authority for the use of the title “Licensed Massage Therapist” was granted.
