Any person wishing to request access to public records of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, or seeking assistance in making such a request, must submit the request in writing in accordance with the instructions found on the agency’s website, http://www.dps.ms.gov. Requests by mail should be sent to the following: Legal Division Attn: Public Records P.O. Box 958 Jackson, Mississippi 39205 2. The Legal Division will oversee the Department’s compliance with the Act, but one or more additional Department staff members may process the request. Therefore, these rules will refer to the Legal Division or “Public Records Designee.” The Legal Division or Public Records Designee and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety will provide the “fullest assistance” to requestors, ensure that public records are protected from damage or disorganization and prevent fulfilling public records requests from causing excessive interference with essential functions of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.
