Legal Authority and Purpose.
The Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 (as amended) authorizes the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program (SNAP). The purpose of the SNAP is to help low-income households increase their food
purchasing power in order to obtain a more nutritious diet.
