Authority – The Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) is
authorized by state statute to promulgate regulations, policies and procedures
necessary to implement the state’s child welfare system and to ensure the safety,
permanency, and well-being for Mississippi’s families and children.
MDCPS is responsible for the Title IV-B Subpart 1 (Child Welfare Services), IV-B
Subpart 2 (Promoting Safe and Stable Families), Title IV-E (Foster Care and
Adoption Assistance), Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) (42
U.S.C. 67 §§5101-5116i) as amended several times, the last being Trafficking
Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act of 2022 (PL 117-348),
Chafee Foster Care Independence Program (CFCIP), Educational Training Voucher
(ETV) and other federal and state programs.
