Use of Family and Friends as Interpreters – Minor children, other clients, family members, or other adult friends of LEP persons may not serve as primary interpreters. A specific request from an LEP individual that a family member or friend be present to act as a secondary interpreter for them will be documented in the case file, and an MDCPS interpreter will be present and used as the primary interpreter due to issues of competency of interpretation, confidentiality, privacy, and conflicts of interest.
