Screening the Application – For all Relative / Fictive kin applications, the licensure application will be screened to ensure the applicant satisfies the following criteria: 1. At least eighteen (18) years old; 2. Housing no more than a total of six (6) children, including foster, biological, and adoptive children, at any given time. Exceptions may be considered by MDCPS. 3. Not a substantiated perpetrator in MACWIS/PATHWAYS. Exceptions may be considered for placements with Relatives / Fictive Kin. 4. A legal resident of the United States and currently residing in the state of Mississippi. 5. Willing to work toward the plan of reunification or any other plan that MDCPS and the Youth Court determine is in the best interest of the child. 6. Able to effectively communicate throughout the application process. At least one applicant in the home must have functional literacy to ensure at least one applicant reads and writes at the level necessary to assist in meeting the child’s needs/communicating through training and licensing process. If these criteria are not met, the licensure application will be screened out and a Notice of Action letter will be sent within three (3) business days of the decision to the applicant(s) through DocuSign or certified mail if an e-mail address is not on file. The Notice of Action letter will explain why the inquiry did not meet the screening qualifications. There is no appeal process for the screening out of an inquiry.
