(1) An eighth-grade student at the advanced level in mathematics demonstrates superior performance. He/she: (a) demonstrates self-motivation and independence as a learner; (b) is accurate and fluent when applying mathematical processes; (c) effectively uses multiple strategies and extends concepts to new situations; (d) explores hypothetical questions and articulates valid arguments; (e) applies and extends rational numbers, proportionality, and algebraic concepts to solve real and theoretical problems; (f) applies complex measurement and geometric relationships to hypothetical situations; (g) consistently makes accurate predictions and decisions based on basic probability and statistics; and (h) recognizes interconnections within and outside mathematics.
