01 NCAC 15 .0203. GROUPS ELIGIBLE FOR PETITIONING PROCESS

(a) Only American Indian groups located in North Carolina who can trace their historic origins to indigenous American Indian tribes prior to 1790 are eligible to petition or to be considered for State recognition as an American Indian tribe. (b) Each group seeking recognition shall document their organizational status and structure. The formal status and type of organizational structure of the petitioning group shall not be a factor in the recognition process.
