54-01-12. Exchange of lands on Indian reservation between state and federal government. The state of North Dakota, through its several departments and agencies, may exchange tracts and sections of land on Indian reservations within the state, belonging to the state of North Dakota, and not a part of the original grant of land to the state provided in the Enabling Act, for lands of like character and value belonging to the United States government on Indian reservations within this state. Such exchange is subject to the approval of the appropriate department of the federal government and the lands must be appraised in the manner provided by law. The state also may execute and deliver proper conveyances of such land in the manner and form provided by law, without the necessity of complying with any statute requiring notice of exchange or competitive bidding, and it may accept in return therefor a proper instrument of conveyance to the state of the lands for which such state lands are exchanged.
