The purpose of this bulletin is to provide information regarding the requirements for continuing education of applicants for bail bondsman licensure. On May 21, 2014 the New Mexico Legislature required that before a bail bondsman licensee could renew a license, each licensee “shall complete annually continuing education requirements as prescribed by rule.” NMSA 1978, § 59A-51-4.1. The current rule requires each bail bondsman licensee must complete fifteen (15) hours of continued education each calendar year. § 13.4.7.9(A)(2) NMAC. This fifteen (15) hour requirement will be continued for the continuing education credit year ending 9/30/2015. On or before December 31, 2015, the Office of Superintendent of Insurance will be proposing amendments to § 13.4.7.9(A)(2) NMAC, regarding the hourly annual continued education requirements for bail bondsmen.
