Observation of patients; communication with other providers of health care; allowance for patients’ choices.

A registered nurse shall: 1. Perform or supervise the direct observation of patients under his or her care; 2. Ensure the effectiveness, use and maintenance of procedures used to communicate to other providers of health care a patient’s symptoms, reactions and progress; and 3. Recognize, understand and allow for a patient’s choice regarding his or her psychological, biological, social and cultural needs and religious beliefs.
