1. When an agency which provides child welfare services receives a referral that a child is alleged to be abused, neglected or threatened with harm, its first step must be to obtain sufficient information to decide if the allegations constitute a report of the abuse or neglect of a child which is appropriate for investigation. The worker shall explore the nature of the reporter’s concern, evaluate the report and explain the agency’s responsibility and services and the available resources that could be used. 2. When an agency which provides child welfare services receives more than one report on the same family referring to the same incident occurring on the same date with the same alleged perpetrator, the agency shall consider them to be a single report. An additional report must be made of any subsequent incident.
