PC 2003-01 TO: ALL PROPERTY AND CASUALTY INSURERS LICENSED IN OKLAHOMA ATTENTION: STATE FILING DIVISION FROM: OKLAHOMA INSURANCE DEPARTMENT RE: 18 O.S. §593 - FIRE DEPARTMENTS FOR UNINCORPORATED AREAS SERVICE FEES DATE: MAY 1, 2003 (Original Release Date: January 9, 1991) PURPOSE OF THIS BULLETIN It has come to the attention of this Department that some insurers may not be aware of the provisions contained in Title 18, Section 593 of the Oklahoma Statutes. The purpose of this bulletin is to advise insurers of Section 593 and its provisions. Section 593 provides that any charitable corporation formed for the purpose of providing either a volunteer or full time fire department may charge a service fee for its services in extinguishing fires. Further, if insurance coverage is provided for the fee or the cost of providing the service rendered by the fire department, the insured party or the fire department shall notify the insurer. Upon such notification, the insurer shall make the instrument of payment for the services of the fire department to the order of the responding fire department and the insured.
