All moving parts of car-safety mechanism should be kept clean and free of rust and dirt, and should be lubricated at frequent intervals. This is specially important where the equipment is exposed to water or corrosive vapors or excessively damp conditions, as corrosion or rusting of the parts may prevent operation of the safety.
