El propósito de la EV es recopilar información sobre los viajeros que son necesarias para precisar la medición de la economía de Puerto Rico, particularmente el gasto de los visitantes que visitan Puerto Rico y el gasto de los visitantes residentes en Puerto Rico cuando viajan a otro lugar. Cuestionario Se incluye una serie de directrices para propiciar de modo apropiado el acercamiento de los entrevistadores y las preguntas que se formularán como parte de la EV en los aeropuertos Luis Muñoz Marín de San Juan y Rafael Hernández de Aguadilla, y en los muelles turísticos del Viejo San Juan. Las entrevistas se harán mediante el método de entrevista personal asistida por computadora (CAPI en inglés), por lo cual el documento contiene una descripción de los caracteres que describen la base de datos que contendrá la información recopilada. Tanto las instrucciones para el entrevistador como para el programador aparecen entre corchetes.
