speed at which the car or counterweight can strike its buffer, the buffer stroke shall be based on at least one hundred and fifteen (115) per cent of such reduced striking speed and on an average retardation not exceeding 32.2 feet per second per second. In no case shall the stroke used be less than fifty (50) per cent of the stroke required by Subdivision 1 of this rule for rated speeds under 800 feet per minute, nor less than 33-1/3 per cent, or eighteen (18) inches, whichever is greater for rated speeds of 800 feet per minute or more (See Rule 205.17). Fig. No. 1204.1 in Part XII, Section 1204, indicates the minimum buffer strokes for various initial velocities. Table No. 201. 4a indicates the minimum buffers strokes for the most usual rated speeds. See formula in Part XII, Section 1204 for calculation of buffer strokes differing from or exceeding those listed in Table 201.4a. 201. - Retardation
