Insurance Bulletin Number 2024-7
Insurance Adjuster Continuing Education Requirement
The purpose of this Bulletin is to provide details for the Department’s implementation of the
regulatory requirement for insurance claim adjuster continuing education outlined in 230-RICR-
20-50-4.9.
In accordance with the regulation, this requirement applies to individuals who are: 1) RI
resident company/independent adjuster licensees, 2) RI resident public adjuster licensees,
and 3) non-resident RI designated home state (DHS) adjuster licensees who are required to
meet RI resident requirements.
We understand the complexity many of our licensees have faced with having to comply with
other jurisdiction’s continuing education requirements and, in some instances, licensees are
tracking continuing education across multiple jurisdictions. To remove this burden and in
furtherance of our commitment to adjuster licensing uniformity and reciprocity, the Department
is implementing continuing education for insurance claim adjusters who will be required to
complete twenty-one (21) general credits and three (3) ethics credits.
We have considered the individual impact of this licensing compliance requirement. As such, all
licensees who are required to meet this requirement as noted above, with a license expiration
date of 2026 and thereafter will be required to complete continuing education before they can
renew their adjuster license.
Beginning October 1, 2024, Rhode Island continuing education providers can submit courses
through the NAIC’s State Based System (SBS) platform under a new course group titled
General Adjusting. Courses can be submitted under this category as general credits or a
combination of general credits and ethics credits; ethics only courses can be submitted under the
course group Ethics. Only approved providers can submit courses.
Individual adjuster licensees can access RI approved courses with our Lookup Search. Only
courses in the General Adjusting or Ethics course groups will be considered for adjuster
continuing education compliance. In accordance with our reporting requirements for providers
under 230-RICR-20-50-2, all course credits will be electronically reported to the individual
licensees Education Transcript.
