TWO-YEAR PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE The two-year professional certificate provides professional educators with a one time only opportunity to satisfy requirements for certification renewal or to accept employment requiring a RI educator’s certificate and satisfy current certification requirements over a two-year period. The two-year professional certificate is NOT RENEWABLE for educators who use the two-year professional certificate for employment in Rhode Island. To be eligible for the two-year professional certificate an educator must meet all of the following criteria: • The educator must satisfy the RI testing requirement for the area of certification to be issued. • The educator must satisfy the degree requirement for the area of certification to be issued. • The educator must be a graduate of an approved program, from an approved college or university, in the area of certification to be issued or was certified as a professional educator, by another state/jurisdiction responsible for certifying educators to serve in the public schools, in the area of certification to be issued. If you believe that you meet the eligibility requirements for issuance of a two-year professional certificate, you need to complete a special application for issuance of this certificate. The application can be obtained by calling the Office of Teacher Certification or on line at www.ridoe.net. Return the completed application along with the appropriate fee for this certificate.
