The Building Code Standards Committee, in accordance with the rule-making authority
of Title 23, Chapter 23-27.3, Sections 109.1, paragraphs a through c inclusive, hereby
adopts the provision of the International Fuel Gas Code, 2000 Edition, as published by
the International Code Council, Inc. as the Rhode Island State Fuel Gas Code, together
with the amendments thereto hereinafter set forth to the chapters and sections of said
code.
Format: This report follows numbering sequence and topics of International Fuel
Gas Code 2000 (first printing). All Provisions of IFGC 2000 are retained unless
indicated as deleted or revised. Published errata will be incorporated into the final
documents.
Chapter 1
ADMINISTRATION
The following Rhode Island amendments are made to the sections of Chapter 1:
Revise section 101.1, Title, to read as follows:
101.1 Title. These regulations shall be known as Fuel Gas Code Regulations SBC-15
hereafter referred to as “this code”.
102.2.1 Delete and substitute the following:
102.2.1…..shall be regulated by the Rhode Island Building Code.
Delete I.F.G.C. Sections 103 through 106 and 108 through 109.7.
Chapter 4
Gas Piping Installations
404.10.1 Add this section
404.10.1 Separate ditch for gas piping. The laying or installing of gas piping in
the same trench with water, sewer, electric, or drainage pipe is prohibited, except
where approved.
Chapter 5
Chimneys and Vents
503.5.3 Masonry Chimneys. Revise the referenced section as follows:
503.5.3………see section 503.6.5
503.5.6.4 Add the following section:
503.5.6.4 Existing Chimneys and Vents: Installation of appliances below an
85% AFUE rating shall be exempt from the requirement of installing a
new chimney liner.
