Cite as S.D. Admin. R. 20:50:10:03
A contact lens prescription expires:
(1) Not less than one year after the issue date of the prescription; or
(2) On the date specified by the prescribing optometrist, based upon the medical judgment of the prescribing optometrist with respect to the ocular health of the patient.
If a prescription expires in less than one year, the prescribing optometrist shall document the reasons for that expiration date in the patient's medical record. A prescribing optometrist may not specify a prescription expiration date that is earlier than the date on which a reexamination of the patient is medically necessary.
