ARSD 44:78:02:20. Lighting

All building spaces, parking lots, and exit discharge routes shall be illuminated for general safety. Specific required lighting levels shall be provided for the following spaces: (1) Ten footcandles for general illumination; (2) Thirty footcandles for dining rooms, bathing areas, food preparation areas, laundry, staff work area, and areas where persons are involved in reading or other close work tasks; (3) Fifty footcandles shall be provided on the work surface of the medication set up and distribution area; and (4) Portable halogen lamps may not be used due to extremely high surface temperatures.
