McREYNOLDS COMMISSIONER Printing Company Address on Policies/P.C. 671 October 22, 1990 Recent inquiries have led the Department to believe that there may be some confusion over the interpretation of the following new legislation to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 56, Chapter 2, Part 1: "On every policy of insurance covering risks in the State of Tennessee which is issued after July 1, 1991 by an insurance company doing business in this state, there shall be printed the address of the company's home office, regional office, or service center." The Department interprets the above language as requiring that the address be prominently displayed on the policy in bold face type and in no smaller print that 10 point type. A prominently placed permanent sticker or stamp would be in compliance. This legislation applies to all types of policies and certificates issued in the State of Tennessee including credit and surety insurance. Also, please note that failure to comply with this provision shall be a deceptive act or practice under the Unfair Trade Practices Act. ·-
