The farmland preservation program facilitates enrollment of conservation easements that are
applied for jointly by landowners and qualified easement holders, to be granted in perpetuity
with the holders. The program competitively selects applications that present the greatest
opportunities for preservation of high value agricultural or forest land and provides grant
funding to selected applications for a portion of: the current market value of the parcel’s
development rights and reimbursement of costs associated with enrolling the easement.

This chapter applies to any person who applies for grant funding through the program, any
holder of a conservation easement that was enrolled with funding provided under the
program, and each easement funded through the program.
