RESTRAINT. (1) A licensed practitioner may initiate isolation, mechanical restraint or physical holding restraint. In the absence of a licensed practitioner, isolation, mechanical restraint, or physical holding restraint may be initiated by a licensed practical nurse, a registered nurse or by mental health personnel. All staff who initiate the use of isolation, mechanical restraint, or physical holding restraint must have completed training requirements in compliance with this chapter prior to initiating isolation, mechanical restraint or physical holding restraint. A licensed practitioner who has been trained in the use of isolation, mechanical restraint, and physical holding restraint must be contacted immediately for order of the isolation, mechanical restraint, or physical holding restraint if a licensed practitioner did not initiate it.
