R650-217-1. Fire Extinguishers Required

(1) A motorboat operator shall ensure the motorboat has on board a fire extinguisher in the quantity and sizes set out in the below Table 1. TABLE 1 LENGTH OF MOTORBOAT NUMBER/SIZE Less than 26 feet in length 1/B-I 26 feet to less than 40 feet in length 2/B-I or 1/B-II 40 feet to 65 feet in length 3/B-I or 1/B-I and 1/B-II (2) A motorboat operator is not required to have a fire extinguisher on board the vessel if the vessel is: (a) less than 26 feet in length; (b) of open construction; and (c) not carrying passengers for hire. (3) If a motorboat is not equipped with an engine compartment, a motorboat operator is not required to have a fixed extinguishing system on board the vessel. (4) If a motorboat operator is required to have a B-II size fire extinguisher on board a vessel, the operator shall place the B-II size fire extinguisher near the stern. (5) If a motorboat is not equipped with a galley and the motorboat operator is required to carry a B-II size fire extinguisher on board the vessel, the operator shall place the B-II size fire extinguisher midship. (6) A vessel operator shall ensure each fire extinguisher carried on board a vessel pursuant to this rule is properly charged.
