Separate state facilities for elderly individuals; free-standing state facilities authorized

The Department shall establish and operate a separate geriatric unit within each state facility that serves significant numbers of elderly individuals. Each unit shall provide care and treatment for those individuals and shall be separated in a reasonable manner from the rest of the state facility. The Board may, giving full consideration to the needs and resources available, authorize the establishment of free-standing state facilities for elderly individuals receiving services. 1974, c. 402, § 37.1-24.2; 1980, c. 582; 2005, c. 716 ; 2012, cc. 476 , 507 .
