Owners and operators must equip pressurized piping with automatic line leak detectors meeting the requirements of this section. (1) Standards. For the purposes of this method, automatic line leak detectors must be able to: (a) Detect a leak rate of at least three gallons per hour at ten pounds per square inch line pressure within one hour from any portion of the piping that routinely contains a regulated substance with a probability of detection of at least 0.95 and a probability of false alarm of no more than 0.05; and (b) If a leak is detected, alert the operator by shutting off or restricting the flow of regulated substances or triggering an audible or visual alarm. (2) Performance. Automatic line leak detectors must be operated in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and any conditions or limitations specified in the certification of the equipment.
