WAC 296-806-20018. Make sure hand feeding and retrieval tools meet these requirements

You must make sure hand feeding and retrieval tools: (1) Are suitable for the work to be done. (2) Do not create a hazard when used. (3) Are of a size and shape that will keep the operator's hands outside the hazardous area. (4) Are constructed so they will not shatter if they come in contact with the machine tool or tooling. Note: Hand feeding and retrieval tools, such as push sticks or push blocks, can not be used instead of required safeguarding, unless a specific machine requirement allows it.
