WAC 296-874-20010. Make sure platforms meet minimum width requirements

You must make sure scaffold platforms meet the minimum width requirements of Table 1, Minimum Platform Width. Table 1 Minimum Platform Width Type of Scaffold Minimum Platform Width Required Ladder jack scaffold Pump jack scaffold 12 inches (20 cm) Roof bracket scaffold Top plate bracket scaffold Boatswain's chair No minimum width All other scaffolds 18 inches (46 cm) Exemption: Platforms and walkways may be less than 18 inches (46 cm) wide if all of the following are met: 1. You can demonstrate that the area is so narrow that the platform or walkway cannot be at least 18 inches (46 cm) wide; 2. The platform or walkway is as wide as feasible; 3. Employees on those platforms or walkways are protected from falling by using guardrails or personal fall arrest systems.
