WAC 296-96-23116. Car numbers

In any building with more than one elevator, numbers at least 50.8 mm (2 in.) in height identifying each car shall be located at the main lobby entrance, inside the car, on the machine, and on the disconnect switch and if the conveyance has a walk-in pit, numbers shall also be installed on the buffer stands. Elevators installed in compliance with ASME A17.1/CSA B44, 2.29 are exempt from this rule.
