Policy on integrated pest management.
(1) Statement of policy. It is the goal of the state of Wisconsin to promote the use of integrated pest management on all managed lands and waters in the state. Integrated pest management is a sustainable, science-based decision-making process that combines biological, cultural, physical, and chemical tools to identify, manage, and reduce risk from pests and pest management tools in a way that minimizes overall economic, health, and environmental risks.
(2) Definition. “Integrated pest management” means an ecosystem-based decision-making strategy informed by current, comprehensive information on pest life cycles and the interactions among pests and the environment that focuses on long-term suppression of pests or their damage and considers all the available pest control practices.
(3) Objectives. The department shall do all of the following:
(a) Make information on integrated pest management widely available to resource managers, including state agencies.
(b) Use integrated pest management to control pests on department-managed lands and waters.
(c) Promote integrated pest management through procurement and regulatory policies and other activities.
