JANUARY 2003 WEST VIRGINIA INFORMATIONAL LETTER NO. 144 TO: Foreign licensed fraternal, life and accident and health, property and casualty, risk retention groups, title and reciprocal insurance companies FROM: Jane L. Cline, Commissioner DATE: January 6, 2003 RE: Printed (Hard Copy) Quarterly and Annual Financial Statements Effective with the 2002 Annual Statement due on or before the first day of March 2003, and the 2003 First Quarter Financial Statement due May 15, 2003, and thereafter, all foreign insurance companies identified above that file annual and/or quarterly financial statement blanks with the Commission will no longer be required to submit a printed copy of their Annual or Quarterly Statement to the West Virginia Insurance Commission unless otherwise requested in writing by the Commissioner. The Commissioner hereby appoints the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) as its repository for statutory financial filings by foreign insurance companies. Companies are required to file their Annual and Quarterly Statements with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners by electronically readable means in an appropriate format acceptable to the NAIC. Foreign insurers are required to submit on or before March 1st, an Affidavit of Filing and Financial Statement Attestation along with the $100 Annual Statement Filing Fee with the West Virginia Insurance Commission as provided by the West Virginia Required Filings Checklist. Instructions on filing over the Internet with the NAIC are available on their website at http://www.naic.org. Please click on the link for Internet Filings. The West Virginia State Required Filings Checklists for all types of insurers are available on our website at http://www.wvinsurance.gov and clicking on the Company link. This Informational Letter does not apply to domestic companies regulated by the West Virginia Insurance Commissioner or to non-domiciled health maintenance organizations. West Virginia domestic insurance companies and all licensed HMOs shall continue to file in the manner previously prescribed.
