GRADDICK ATTORNEY GENERAL MAR 27 1979 Mr. Thornton Fleming Chairman, Morgan County Commission Box 668 Decatur, Alabama 35602 Sheriffs - Horgan County - Salary Dear Mr. Fleming: Your request of March 1, 1979, for an opinion has been received by the Office of the Attorney General. Your letter containing the following resolution: "Be it resolved by the Morgan Ccunty Commission of Morgan County, Alabama, that the Attorney General of the State of Alabama be requested to render an opinion to Morgan County, Alabama, in view of the passage of the General Act No. 538 of the 1978 Legislature found on page 596 and Local Act No. 345 fund on page 615, both Acts becoming laws on April 25, 1978, without approval by the Governor." The conclusion of this office, based upot the language of the statutes and general principles of statutory interpretation, is that Act No. 546 is the appropriate Act for Morgan County to follow in relation to sheriffs' compensation.
