CERTIFICATION OF REPRESENTATIVES
August 29, 1939
On July 28, 1939, the National Labor Relations Board, herein
called the Buard, issued a Decision and Direction of Election in the
above-entitled proceeding.l
The Direction of Election directed that
an election by secret ballot be conducted among the production,
maintenance, shipping and receiving room employees, and foremen
who were on the pay rolls of Harris-Hub Bed and Spring Company
and Carl Harris Company, herein called the Companies, for the
week beginning May 1, 1939, including employees who did not work
during such pay-roll period because they were ill or on vacation,
and employees who were then or had since been temporarily laid
off, but excluding supervisory employees other than foremen, clerical
and office employees, watchmen, temporary employees, and em-
ployees who had since quit or been discharged for cause, to deter-
mine whether they desired to be represented by United Furniture
Workers of America, Local 1608, affiliated with the Congress of
Industrial Organizations, herein called the United, or by Mattress,
Bedding and Spring Workers Union, Local 185, affiliated with the
Upholsterers' International Union of America, and through it, with
the American Federation of Labor, herein called Local 185, for the
purposes of collective bargaining, or by neither.
Pursuant to the Direction of Election an election by secret ballot
was conducted on August 11, 1939, under the direction and super-
vision of the Regional Director for the Thirteenth Region (Chicago,
Illinois).
On August 17, 1939, the Regional Director, acting pur_
suant to Article III, Section 9, of National Labor Relations Board'
Rules and Regulations-Series 2, issued and duly served upon the
parties an Intermediate Report on the Election.

With respect to the 21 challenged ballots, the Regional Director
recommended that they be not opened because they could not affect
the results of the election.
No exceptions to the Intermediate Re-
port have been filed by any of the parties. The Board hereby adopts
the recommendations of the Regional Director regarding the chal-
lenged ballots.
By virtue of and pursuant to the power vested in the National
Labor Relations Board by Section 9 (c) of the National Labor
Relations Act, 49 Stat. 449, and pursuant to Article III, Sections 8
and 9, of National Labor Relations Board Rules and Regulations-
Series 2,
IT IS HEREBY CERTIFIED that United Furniture Workers of America,
Local 1608, affiliated with the Congress of Industrial Organizations,
has been designated and selected by a majority of the production,
maintenance, shipping and receiving room employees, and foremen
of Harris-Hub Bed and Spring Company and Carl Harris Company,
Cicero, Illinois, excluding supervisory employees other than fore-
men, clerical and office employees, watchmen, and temporary em-
ployees, as their representative for the purposes of collective bar-
gaining, and pursuant to Section 9 (a) of the Act, United Furni-
ture Workers of America, Local 1608, affiliated with the Congress
of Industrial Organizations, is the exclusive representative of all
such employees for the purposes of collective bargaining in respect
to rates of " pay, wages, hours of employment, and other conditions
of employment.
