Bureau of the Census Salaries and expenses: For expenses necessary for collecting, compiling. and publishing current census statistics provided for by law; and for general administration, including enumerators at rates to be fixed without regard to the Classification Act of 1949, as amended; and purchase of two passenger motor vehicles for replacement only; $6,770,000. Censuses of business and manufactures and agriculture: For expenses for “spot checking” business, manufactures, and agriculture in such manner as the Secretary of Commerce shall decide to be. most helpful and informative to said undertakings including personal services by contract or otherwise at rates to be fixed by said Secretary without regard to the Classification Act of 1949, as amended; and additional compensation of Federal employees temporarily detailed for field work under this appropriation; $1,500,000.
