§ 3290. Commissioned officers; Medical Service Corps: original appointment; additional qualifications, grade An original appointment in the Regular Army in the Medical Service Corps may be made only in the grade of second lieutenant, except as provided in section 3287 (c) of this title, and from the following persons: (1) Members of the Regular Army. (2) Reserves not in an inactive status. (3) Graduates of an accredited school of pharmacy or optometry, or of a school or college who hold a degree in a science allied to medicine or any other degree approved by the Surgeon General.
