§ 5661. Reassignment: staff corps officer advanced (a) If a staff corps officer not restricted in the performance of duty serving on active duty in the grade of lieutenant (junior grade) or above is advanced in numbers in his grade, he shall have assigned to him as his new running mate the running mate of the officer of his grade and corps, not restricted in the performance of duty, who is next senior to him in the position to which he is advanced or, if there is none, the running mate of the officer of his grade and corps, not restricted in the performance of duty, who is next junior to him in his new position. (b) If a staff corps officer restricted in the performance of duty serving on active duty in the grade of lieutenant (junior grade) or above is advanced in numbers in his grade, he shall have assigned to him as his new running mate the running mate of the officer of his grade and corps, restricted in the performance of duty, who is next senior to him in the position to which he is advanced or, if there is none, the running mate of the officer of his grade and corps, restricted in the performance of duty, who is next junior to him in his new position.
