§ 11–1902. Inquests; exceptions; jury (a) Except as provided by subsection (b) of this section, the coroner shall hold an inquest over the body of each person found dead in the District when the manner and cause of death is not already known as accidental or in the course of nature. (b) The coroner may not summon or hold a jury of inquest over the body of a deceased person where it is known that the deceased came to his death by suicide, accident, mischance, or natural causes; except that where it is not known that the deceased came to his death by suicide the coroner may summon a jury. (c) A coroners jury shall consist of six persons.
