authority of certain officers and employees to carry firearms Sec. 406. The Act of June 28, 1955 (22 U.S.C. 2666) is amended by striking out all after the enacting clause and inserting in lieu thereof the following: “That, under such regulations as the Secretary of State may prescribe, security officers of the Department of State and the Foreign Service who have been designated by the Secretary of State and who have qualified for the use of firearms, are authorized to carry firearms for the purpose of protecting heads of foreign states, 89 STAT. 771official representatives of foreign governments, and other distinguished visitors to the United States, the Secretary of State, the Deputy Secretary of State, official representatives of the United States Government, and members of the immediate families of any such persons, both in the United States and abroad. The Secretary shall transmit such regulations to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate not more than twenty days before the date on which such regulations take effect.”.
