SEC. 1226. DEPOT-LEVEL MAINTENANCE OF SHIPS (a) Requirement That Certain Work Be Carried Out in the United States.—The Secretary of the Navy shall require that, to the extent feasible and consistent with policies of the Navy regarding family separations, not less than one-half of the depot-level maintenance work described in subsection (b) (measured in cost) shall be carried out in the United States. (b) Work Covered.—Depot-level maintenance work referred to in subsection (a) is depot-level maintenance work for naval vessels that is scheduled as of October 1, 1988, to be carried out in Japan during fiscal years 1989, 1990, and 1991.
