SEC. 1227. REPORTS ON EFFECTS OF NAVAL SHIPBUILDING PLANS ON MARITIME INDUSTRIES (a) Annual Report.—The Secretary of Defense shall submit to Congress in 1989, 1990, and 1991 a report on how, under the current Five-Year Defense Program of the Department of Defense, programs for naval shipbuilding and conversion, for naval vessel repair, and for procurement of support equipment for naval vessels could be expected to affect the private-sector shipbuilding and ship repair industries of the United States in terms of the effectiveness and preparedness of those industries for mobilization in their role in the sealift component of the conventional deterrent of the United States. (b) Time for Submission.—The report under subsection (a) for any year shall be submitted to Congress at the same time that the Secretary submits his annual report to Congress for that year under section 113(c) of title 10, United States Code.
