STATE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM STUDY.
SEC. 163. STATE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM STUDY. (a) Investigation and Study.—The Secretary shall enter into appropriate arrangements with the National Academy of Sciences to conduct a complete investigation of the appropriateness of establishing minimum Federal guidelines for maintenance of the Federal-aid primary, secondary, and urban systems. (b) Report.—Not later than 18 months after entering into appropriate arrangements under subsection (a), the National Academy of Sciences shall submit to the Secretary and the Committee on Environment and Public Works of the Senate and the Committee on Public Works and Transportation of the House of Representatives a 101 STAT. 214report on the results of the investigation and study conducted under subsection (a) together with recommendations (including legislative and administrative recommendations) concerning establishment of minimum Federal guidelines for maintenance of the Federal-aid primary, secondary, and urban systems.
