SEC. 732. FEES FOR TRAUMA AND OTHER MEDICAL CARE PROVIDED TO CIVILIANS. (a) Requirement To Implement Procedures.—(1) Chapter 55 of title 10, United States Code, is amended by inserting after section 1079a the following new section: “§ 1079b. Procedures for charging fees for care provided to civilians; retention and use of fees collected “(a) Requirement To Implement Procedures.—The Secretary of Defense shall implement procedures under which a military medical treatment facility may charge civilians who are not covered beneficiaries (or their insurers) fees representing the costs, as determined by the Secretary, of trauma and other medical care provided to such civilians. “(b) Use of Fees Collected.—A military medical treatment facility may retain and use the amounts collected under subsection (a) for— “(1) trauma consortium activities; “(2) administrative, operating, and equipment costs; and “(3) readiness training.”. (2) The table of sections at the beginning of such chapter is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 1079a the following new item: 115 STAT. 1170 “1079b. Procedures for charging fees for care provided to civilians; retention and use of fees collected.”. (b) Deadline for Implementation.—The Secretary of Defense shall begin to implement the procedures required by section 1079b(a) of title 10, United States Code (as added by subsection (a)), not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act.
