SEC. 232. SEC. 232. REPORT ON SDI DEVELOPMENT PLANS AND COSTS (a) Report Requirement.—The Secretary of Defense shall submit to the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and House of Representatives a report on the total cost to develop, produce, deploy, operate, and maintain the ballistic missile defense system that would incorporate the technologies approved by the Secretary of Defense in authorizing proceeding into the demonstration/validation phase of the acquisition process. Should this system not be sufficiently defined, the system described in the 1987 report entitled “Report of the Technical Panel on Missile Defense in the 1990s”, prepared by the George C. Marshall Institute, should be used as a basis for determining cost. (b) Deadline for Report; Classification.—The report under subsection (a) shall be submitted no later than six months after the date of the enactment of this Act and shall be submitted in unclassified form.
