SEC. 723. ALLOCATION TO HEALTH PROFESSIONS OF SPECIFIED PORTION OF NAVY OFFICER ACCESSIONS AND GROWTH IN END STRENGTHS The Secretary of the Navy shall ensure that— (1) not less than 25 percent of the number of original appointments made in officer grades in the Navy during each of fiscal years 1989 and 1990 shall be made in health profession specialties (or with a view to assignment of the officer to a health profession specialty); and (2) not less than 15 percent of any increase in authorized end strength for the Navy for each of fiscal years 1989 and 1990 over the end strength of the Navy authorized for fiscal year 1988 shall be dedicated to personnel to be assigned to duty in the health professions.
