Although changes to 215 ILCS 5/143a. are effective immediately, the Department of Insurance is allowing a grace period for companies to implement this change. All companies are expected to comply with changes to 215 ILCS 5/143a no later than January 1, 2023. Additionally, 215 ILCS 5/143a(2) states “Each insurance company providing motor vehicle property damage liability insurance shall advise applicants of the availability of uninsured motor vehicle property damage coverage, the premium therefor, and provide a brief description of the coverage.” Because of changes in coverage availability as well as potential changes in coverage options, the notice identified under 215 ILCS 5/143a(2) should be reissued with the first renewal subsequent to January 1, 2023.
