820 IAC 4-4-7.1 Specific curriculum for estheticians

Sec. 7.1. (a) An esthetician curriculum must be a minimum course of seven hundred (700) hours of instruction in the theory and practice of esthetics consisting of the following: Subject Theory and Demonstration Practice Actual Practice Total Hours Chemistry 5 5 Physiology and anatomy 5 5 Sanitation 10 50 60 Electricity and equipment 5 5 Facials/skin care 35 355 390 Makeup and lashes 10 65 75 Hair removal (superfluous hair) 15 110 125 Advanced techniques 5 10 15 State statutes and rules 10 10 Business 10 10 Total 110 590 700 (b) Students are required to complete not fewer than the number of actual practice performances provided for in the progress report required by section 11 of this rule. (c) All: (1) acne treatments; (2) makeup applications; (3) advanced techniques; and (4) waxing; must be done on live models. At least fifty percent (50%) of the other services must be done on live models. (d) The actual practice not described in subsection (c) may be on actual customers of the beauty culture school. However, students may not work on customers of the beauty culture school until they have completed a total of ninety (90) hours. Customers shall be rotated according to the students' needs for practice on live models.
